Why Medical Billing Is More Important Than Ever!

Course Objectives
- What can you bill? Telemed?
- What are the benefits?
- Understand Diagnosis Coding = Reimbursement

Kandra Sellers RDH, BA, is the creator of Pristine Interprofessional Academy, with its focus on interprofessional collaboration between dental and medical professionals to not only increase the quality of patients’ lives, but to save lives. Early in her dental career, Kandra had the opportunity to be mentored by specialists that drove her passion to the oral systemic connection. It was through the work with the Academy that Kandra saw the opportunities with dental medical billing. Dentists are typically thought of as working on teeth. The reality is dentists are medical specialists in everything associated with the head and neck and how it relates to the overall impact on inflammation and disease. It only made sense to Kandra that there were vast possibilities to help practices, and ultimately patients, increase profitability and case acceptance through medical reimbursements for medically necessary treatment. Since making this connection, Kandra has become well known and widely respected as an industry leading speaker, educator and coach in the field of oral systemic linking medical billing.

April 14 | Connecting Beyond the Op: How Coaching Patients Helps Retain Them

Our worlds are filled with connection – yet the COVID-19 Pandemic has shown us just how important it is to be connected with patients outside of the time they are actually in our practices. Let’s discuss the many ways we can get in front of our patients when our doors are closed and how putting these things into practice can help getting them back in the office as doors open again.

Objectives:
- Learn effective ways to get in front of your patients & what to talk about when you have their attention.
- Realize that “goody bags” are one of the most important pieces of marketing available, and why you should invest in tools and products that deliver great results vs. the freebie bundles you get when you order in bulk.
- Discover how breaking things down into bite-size implementable pieces will have them coming back for more and telling their peers about you too!

Carrie believes that oral health comes from multiple aspects, with one of the biggest challenges being the time it takes people to learn and motivate themselves to make a change in their habits or products. Recognizing this early in her career led her to start "coaching" her patients into healthier mouths with great success. In 2010 she took that knowledge and insight online where she has been successfully motivating people globally to make changes and see results. She can be reached at CarrieIbbetson.com

Cannabis and Inflammation

Objectives
- Explore the differences between THC and CBD
- Discover the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids and terpenes
- Examine the mechanism of action to both brain and body
- Address clinical risks and rewards of cannabis in oral health

There has been rapid change in both public opinion and reported science concerning cannabis
use and its effects. In fact, each year more states legislate to legalize cannabis. What are the
pros and cons of this herb? One claim getting attention is the anti-inflammatory properties of
cannabis. The meteoritic rise of CBD patches, gummies, tincture and oils makes cannabis easy
and assessible to consumers. What are they using it for? Many claim cannabis relieves pain
and swelling - inflammation itself.

We know inflammation is the foundation of all disease, including periodontitis. Recognizing and
reducing inflammation is a large part of what dental professionals are tasked to do. How do we
best recognize inflammation in the oral cavity? What do we tell our patients about treatment
modalities to reduce inflammation? Is cannabis a viable option?

This presentation will focus on answering these questions and more. What is the difference
between hemp, marijuana, THC and CBD? How does cannabis work in the body? What are
terpenes and why do they matter?

The health professional will increasingly treat individuals who freely use cannabis in all its forms.
We are in a position to educate our patients on inflammation and cannabis while providing
prevention strategies to decrease the risk of inflammatory diseases and oral infections.
This fast-paced presentation will address these issues while providing knowledge to educate
and empower our patients and ourselves.

He’s also a frequent contributor as a faculty member for the Dentist Entrepreneur Organization (DEO) and a two-time Grammy Award winning electronic DJ (The DEO thing is true, the DJ thing is not…it’s simply aspirational).

Outside his business, Eric is a Past-President of the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry and plays an influential role as an investor/coach/thought leader for a number of other companies and entrepreneurs beyond the dental industry. He aggressively protects his schedule to prioritize time for traveling, non-fiction reading, nursing his CrossFit injuries, brewing Kombucha, and making the most of every single moment outdoors with his wife and five children after recently moving to Salt Lake City, UT.

Creating a Data Driven Culture

Objectives:
- Learn and apply the formula for happy, healthy teams that are driven by data.
- Simplify the levers of practice profitability so you know exactly how to grow out of this pandemic
- Discover the process to introduce data to teams including key performance indicators by position.
- Understand the path that leads to teams driving the business rather than being pulled along by frustrated leaders.

Josey Sewell, RDH is the VP of Education for Dental Intelligence. She brings with her leadership and operational expertise that she developed as the COO leading a 40M dental group. As a data nerd, Josey has a fond love of all things data and analytics, and while that might sound like she is a pale-faced introvert that hides behind a dashboard, nothing could be further from the truth. Her love of analytics comes from the passionate belief that the greatest disparity in the world today is the inability to harness human energy due to outdated management practices. She is a fierce advocate for the growth of the development of people and is known for her ability to successfully integrate culture and team health with data and sound operational systems.
